A simple upgrade for conductive rubber loops

Got a conductive rubber loop that no longer feels as lively as it once did? This silver-coloured conductive elastic can be threaded through the inside of a suitable conductive rubber loop to lower its internal resistance. It is a straightforward way to revitalise an older loop, or reduce the resistance of a new one, without rebuilding your whole setup.

The cord is supplied in a 1m length, so you can cut what you need for your own loops. It stretches to more than 1.5 times its original length, which helps it move with an elastic conductive rubber cock loop rather than turning the loop into a rigid bit of DIY.

Its approximate resistance is 26 ohms per metre. A typical cock-loop length comes in at roughly 3 ohms, although the finished figure will depend on how much cord you use. Lowering the loop's internal resistance can make the output feel more pronounced or responsive. The exact change will still depend on the conductive rubber, its condition, the finished loop, body contact and the rest of your e-stim setup.

How to use it

Cut a suitable length of conductive elastic, then thread it through the conductive-rubber loop before fitting or reconnecting the loop. Once assembled, check that the loop and its connections are secure and that the rubber has no cracks, splits or other obvious wear.

This is sold as a DIY component, not a universal drop-in part. The opening and construction of conductive-rubber products vary, so check that your chosen rubber can accept the cord before cutting it. If the rubber is badly damaged or brittle, replace it rather than relying on the elastic to rescue it.

When you test the finished loop, start with your control box at zero and slowly raise the power. Fit cock loops snugly, never tightly enough to restrict circulation, and turn the power down before adjusting contact or position.

Why does it cost more than ordinary elastic?

Conductive elastic is a specialist material, and we cannot buy it in the same bulk quantities as ordinary cord. That makes it relatively expensive by the metre. If you regularly make, repair or experiment with conductive-rubber loops, its resistance and stretch can still make one metre a useful addition to the parts drawer.
